Another Milestone in Our Sustainability Journey: Our “Sustainable Future for Youth” Project Awarded Grants! A Youth Power from Xanthi to Europe, Giving Waste a New Life!
Founded in July 2022 under the leadership of Chousein Karachous, the “From Xanthi to Europe” informal youth group, a visionary initiative of university students studying in Greece and abroad, has achieved another international success in the field of environmental awareness and sustainability. Our project, “Sustainable Future for Youth: Knowledge, Skills and Upcycling,” has been awarded grant support.

A Local and Innovative Solution to a Global Problem
Negative human behaviors such as overconsumption, inadequate waste management, and plastic use are leaving irreversible impacts on our planet. Statistics show that less than 10% of the more than 400 million tons of plastic produced globally is recycled, and the average EU citizen generates 4.8 tons of waste per year. Faced with this dire situation, simply reducing consumption is not enough; innovative methods to increase the value of existing waste are needed.
Our Difference: “Upcycling”
The “Sustainable Future for Youth” project offers a solution to these challenges focusing on “Advanced Transformation / Upcycling.” Upcycling, a method that allows waste objects to be transformed into reusable and valuable products through creativity and skill without the need for chemical processes, forms the cornerstone of our project.
Our Project’s Main Objectives:
Knowledge and Awareness: To increase young people’s knowledge and awareness of sustainability, waste management, and upcycling.
Creativity and Production: To develop young people’s creativity by encouraging them to design new, aesthetic, and functional products from waste materials.
Active Application: To ensure that upcycling methods are actively and effectively used in the daily lives of young people.
“From Xanthi to Europe,” a project we’ve developed from a youth work perspective, aims to use the power of international cooperation to produce more effective solutions to environmental problems and to make our youth active “eco-ambassadors” in this process.
Implementation Coming Soon!
With grant support, the implementation phase of the project will begin [e.g., in the coming months]. Detailed schedules and participation conditions for international workshops, seminars, and field visits to be held within the scope of the project will be announced very soon on our website and social media accounts.
Stay Tuned!
We believe in the power and creativity of our youth for the future of our planet. Continue following us to participate in this exciting project and contribute to a sustainable future!
